About the School

First established in 1970, the School of Criminal Justice is ranked among the top programs in the country. The stated mission of the School is Excellence in Research, Teaching and Service, and through our 20 full-time faculty members and 11 staff we serve more than 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students.

The School has been ranked #1 in research, and supports these and related activities through the Center for Criminal Justice Research, which includes the Corrections Institute and the Policing Institute. Graduate students are provided opportunities to learn and conduct research, training, and technical assistance in a wide range of criminal justice settings.

Award Recipients 
Dr. Pat Van Voorhis, Professor in the School of Criminal Justice, has been selected for the "2009 Distinguished Scholar Award" of the Division of Corrections and Sentencing, American Society of Criminology, for the many contributions she has made to the field of corrections.

Dr. Ed Latessa, Professor and Director of the School of Criminal Justice, has been selected for the 2010 Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences' Bruce Smith Award for his contributions to the field of corrections. He will receive this at the ACJS meeting in San Diego, March 2010.

Center for Criminal Justice Research Names New Director
Recently, the faculty appointed Dr. James Frank as the Director of the Center for Criminal Justice Research.  Previously, Dr. Frank spent 9 years as the Graduate Director.  Dr. Frank brings with him over 17 years of research experience.

UC Ranked Number One Nationally in Criminal Justice Research
Along with a string of recognition and honors that establish the Criminal Justice Division at the University of Cincinnati as one of the nation's foremost programs of its kind, add one more – the leading criminal justice department in the nation in research productivity.

That was the outcome documented in the most recent edition of the "Journal of Criminal Justice Education," which included an article by researchers from Florida State University analyzing faculty productivity in the field. Article by Carey Hoffman

Ph.D. Program Ranked Number Three Nationally
A recent article in US News and World Report ranking America's best graduate schools, ranked our Ph.D. program third nationally. We are proud of this ranking and honored to have our program held in such high regard. US News & World Report Article

Breaking Out
In the fall UC Research magazine, Drs. Latessa, Vanvoorhis and Cullen were featured in an article by Carey Hoffman called Breaking Out.
